Walks & Waterfalls

Slip behind the township into the Otway hinterland and you find a different Lorne — moss, ferns, gum trees, and quiet creeks tumbling into cool pools. Here are some of our favourite walks and falls.

Some places to start

Erskine Falls

A 30 metre cascade tucked into a fern‑lined valley about ten minutes' drive from town. The short walk down a wooden stairway feels much further from the coast than it really is.

Teddy's Lookout

Easy walk to a clifftop platform overlooking the St George River meeting the sea. Best at sunset, when the Great Ocean Road snakes off into a pink haze beneath you.

Phantom Falls

A longer loop through the Allenvale rainforest, with a slim curtain of water sliding over an overhang at the end. Bring boots — it gets muddy after rain.

Sheoak Falls

A gentle 45‑minute return walk from the coast road. The falls themselves are small, but the rainforest along Sheoak Creek is worth the trip on its own.
